Infosys is one of the most sought-after IT companies in India for both freshers and experienced professionals. Having guided over 50 candidates through the Infosys hiring process at GetJobWithAbu, I can tell you that success comes down to understanding their specific interview structure and preparing accordingly. This guide covers everything you need to know.

Understanding Infosys Hiring Programs

Infosys runs several distinct hiring programs, and your preparation strategy depends on which one you are targeting:

1. InfyTQ Certification Program

This is Infosys's flagship fresher hiring program. It is a free certification platform where engineering students can learn programming and take a certification exam. Those who pass receive a direct interview opportunity. The platform teaches Python, Java, DBMS, and DSA through structured courses.

2. Infosys Campus Recruitment

Infosys visits top engineering colleges across India for on-campus recruitment. The process typically includes an online test followed by technical and HR interviews. Eligibility criteria usually include 60% or above throughout academics with no active backlogs.

3. Infosys Lateral Hiring (Experienced)

For experienced professionals, Infosys posts positions on their careers portal and platforms like Naukri, LinkedIn, and their referral system. Lateral hiring involves a more rigorous technical evaluation focused on your specific domain expertise.

4. Infosys Power Programmer and Digital Specialist Engineer

These are premium roles with higher compensation packages (5-8 LPA for freshers compared to the standard 3.6 LPA). The selection process is more competitive and includes advanced coding challenges.

Round 1: Online Assessment

The first hurdle is the online assessment, which typically consists of three sections:

Quantitative Aptitude (25-30 questions, 35-40 minutes)

Topics covered include profit and loss, time and work, speed and distance, percentages, ratios, probability, permutations and combinations, and number series. The difficulty level is moderate — comparable to CAT Quantitative section but not as hard.

My tip: Practice 50 problems daily from IndiaBix or PrepInsta for at least 2 weeks before the test. Focus on shortcut methods — you will not have time for lengthy calculations.

Logical Reasoning (25-30 questions, 25-30 minutes)

This section tests pattern recognition, coding-decoding, blood relations, seating arrangements, syllogisms, and data interpretation. Infosys places significant weight on logical reasoning ability.

My tip: Solve previous year Infosys reasoning papers. The patterns repeat frequently. I have seen the same types of seating arrangement problems appear across multiple hiring drives.

Verbal Ability (20-25 questions, 20-25 minutes)

Reading comprehension passages, sentence completion, error identification, and para jumbles. The passages are usually about technology, business, or current affairs.

My tip: Read technology news daily for 2-3 weeks before the test. Infosys loves to use passages about AI, cloud computing, sustainability, and digital transformation.

Round 2: Technical Interview (30-45 minutes)

If you clear the online assessment, you advance to the technical interview. Here is what to expect:

For Freshers

The technical interview for freshers focuses on fundamentals. Expect questions on:

Object-Oriented Programming (OOP):

  • Explain the four pillars of OOP with real-world examples
  • What is the difference between abstraction and encapsulation?
  • Explain polymorphism with a code example
  • What is the difference between method overloading and overriding?

Database Management (DBMS):

  • Write SQL queries involving JOINs, GROUP BY, and subqueries
  • Explain normalization forms (1NF, 2NF, 3NF) with examples
  • What is the difference between DELETE, TRUNCATE, and DROP?
  • Explain ACID properties with a banking transaction example

Data Structures:

  • Explain the difference between arrays and linked lists
  • When would you use a stack vs a queue?
  • Basic sorting algorithm complexity analysis
  • Binary search tree operations

Programming (Java/Python):

  • Write a program to check if a string is a palindrome
  • Implement a basic sorting algorithm
  • Explain exception handling with try-catch-finally
  • Difference between abstract class and interface

For Experienced Professionals

The technical interview is much deeper and domain-specific. If you are applying for a DevOps role, expect questions on CI/CD pipelines, containerization, cloud services, and monitoring. For application support roles, expect incident management, ITIL processes, troubleshooting methodologies, and tool-specific questions.

Key insight from my mentoring experience: Infosys interviewers love scenario-based questions. They will not just ask "What is Jenkins?" — they will ask "You have a Jenkins pipeline that is failing intermittently. How would you debug it?" Prepare stories and scenarios from your real work experience.

Round 3: HR Interview (15-25 minutes)

The HR round at Infosys is not just a formality — candidates do get rejected here. Common questions include:

  1. "Tell me about yourself" — Structure this as: Education → Skills → Projects/Experience → Why Infosys. Keep it under 2 minutes.
  1. "Why Infosys?" — Research Infosys's recent initiatives (digital transformation, AI services, sustainability goals). Mention specific programs or values that attract you.
  1. "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?" — Show ambition aligned with Infosys's growth areas. Mention wanting to become a domain expert or take on leadership roles within Infosys.
  1. "Are you willing to relocate?" — The answer should always be yes. Infosys has offices across India and may assign you to any location initially.
  1. "Do you have any gaps in your education/career?" — Be honest and explain what you did during the gap (courses, freelancing, personal projects).
  1. "What is your expected salary?" — For freshers, Infosys has fixed packages. For lateral hires, research market rates on Glassdoor and AmbitionBox before answering.

Infosys-Specific Preparation Tips

1. Understand Infosys Values

Infosys operates on core values called C-LIFE: Customer Delight, Leadership by Example, Integrity and Transparency, Fairness, and Excellence. Reference these in your HR answers.

2. Know About Their Recent Projects

Research Infosys's recent partnerships, acquisitions, and technology focus areas. Mention their Living Labs, Infosys Cobalt cloud platform, or their AI and automation initiatives.

3. Practice Pseudo Code

Infosys may ask you to write pseudo code rather than actual code in the technical round. Practice expressing algorithms in plain English with clear logic steps.

4. Prepare Your Project Discussion

Whether you are a fresher or experienced professional, prepare to discuss at least one project in detail — the problem it solved, your specific contribution, technologies used, challenges faced, and outcomes achieved. Quantify results wherever possible.

30-Day Study Plan

Week 1-2: Focus entirely on aptitude (Quant + Logical Reasoning). Solve 40-50 problems daily.

Week 2-3: Deep dive into technical subjects — OOP, DBMS, one programming language (Java or Python), and basic DSA.

Week 3-4: Mock interviews, HR preparation, and company research. Practice answering questions aloud — not just in your head.

Throughout: Solve at least 2 coding problems daily on HackerRank or LeetCode (Easy to Medium difficulty).

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Not reading the job description carefully — Infosys JDs contain hints about what they will ask
  2. Ignoring aptitude preparation — Many strong coders fail at the aptitude round
  3. Giving textbook answers — Infosys values practical understanding over memorized definitions
  4. Not asking questions in the HR round — Always have 2-3 thoughtful questions ready about the role, team, or growth path
  5. Poor body language in video interviews — Maintain eye contact with the camera, sit upright, and speak clearly

What to Do After Getting Selected

Once you receive your offer letter, here is what I recommend:

  • Complete any pre-joining learning modules Infosys assigns
  • Brush up on Java and Python — the Mysore training center uses these extensively
  • Start learning about the domain you are assigned to (cloud, digital, enterprise applications)
  • Connect with your batch mates on LinkedIn

If you need personalized preparation help for Infosys interviews, I offer dedicated coaching sessions through my TopMate profile. Many of my mentees have successfully cracked Infosys interviews using these exact strategies.

Good luck with your Infosys interview!
