Wipro is one of India's top IT companies and a major recruiter for both freshers and experienced professionals. Through GetJobWithAbu, I have helped numerous candidates prepare for Wipro interviews, and I have developed a thorough understanding of their hiring process. This guide covers everything from their different hiring programs to the exact types of questions asked in each round.
Wipro Hiring Programs for Freshers
Wipro Elite National Talent Hunt (NTH)
This is Wipro's main fresher hiring program. The package ranges from 3.5-4 LPA for regular roles. The process includes an online assessment followed by technical and HR interviews. The program is open to B.E./B.Tech, M.Tech, MCA, and M.Sc. graduates with 60% or above throughout their academics.
Wipro Turbo
Wipro Turbo is the premium hiring track for freshers with higher technical aptitude. The package is around 6.5-7 LPA — nearly double the regular NTH package. The online test is significantly harder, with advanced coding problems and more complex reasoning questions.
Wipro Off-Campus Drives
Wipro regularly conducts off-campus drives across India. These follow a similar process to NTH but are open to candidates from any college. Keep an eye on GetJobWithAbu for the latest Wipro off-campus drive announcements.
The Online Assessment (Round 1)
Wipro's online assessment is divided into three components:
Written Communication Test (WCT)
You are given an essay topic and must write a clear, grammatically correct essay in approximately 200 words within 20 minutes. Common topics include technology impact on society, current affairs, education system, and environmental issues.
Tips from my mentoring experience:
- Structure your essay: Introduction → 2-3 body paragraphs → Conclusion
- Use simple, clear sentences — do not try to use complex vocabulary unnecessarily
- Proofread for spelling and grammar errors
- Practice writing 2-3 essays before the test to get comfortable with the time limit
Aptitude Test (60 minutes)
This section covers quantitative ability, logical reasoning, and verbal ability. The difficulty is moderate — similar to standard campus placement exams.
Quantitative topics: Profit and loss, time and work, averages, percentages, ratios, probability, and data interpretation. The focus is on quick mental math and shortcut techniques.
Logical reasoning: Coding-decoding, number series, blood relations, direction sense, and analytical puzzles. Wipro's reasoning section tends to have more puzzle-based questions than pure pattern recognition.
Verbal ability: Reading comprehension, sentence correction, para jumbles, and fill in the blanks. Focus on grammar rules — especially subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, and article usage.
Coding Test (60 minutes)
You will receive 2-3 coding problems of varying difficulty. Languages supported include Java, C, C++, and Python. Problems typically involve:
- String manipulation (reverse, palindrome, anagram detection)
- Array operations (sorting, searching, finding patterns)
- Basic data structures (stacks, queues, linked lists)
- Mathematical problems (prime numbers, Fibonacci, GCD)
For Wipro Turbo: The coding problems are significantly harder — expect dynamic programming, graph traversal, and advanced data structure questions.
Technical Interview (Round 2)
The technical interview lasts 30-45 minutes. Here is what Wipro interviewers typically focus on:
Core Technical Questions
Programming Fundamentals:
- Explain OOP concepts with examples from your projects
- Difference between stack and heap memory
- What is a constructor? Types of constructors?
- Explain static vs dynamic memory allocation
- What are access modifiers and why do they matter?
Database and SQL:
- Write queries using JOINs, GROUP BY, HAVING, and subqueries
- Explain the difference between INNER JOIN and LEFT JOIN with examples
- What are indexes and how do they improve query performance?
- Explain normalization with a practical example
- What are ACID properties?
Operating Systems:
- What is the difference between process and thread?
- Explain virtual memory and paging
- What is a deadlock? How can you prevent it?
- Explain the difference between mutex and semaphore
Networking Basics:
- What is the OSI model? Explain each layer briefly
- Difference between TCP and UDP
- What happens when you type a URL in the browser?
- What is DNS and how does it work?
Project Discussion
Wipro interviewers always ask about your projects. For each project, be prepared to discuss:
- The problem statement and your role
- Technologies and tools you used
- Specific technical challenges you faced
- How you tested and deployed the project
- What you would do differently if you built it again
Critical tip: Do not include projects on your resume that you cannot explain in detail. Wipro interviewers will dig deep into your claimed projects, and being unable to answer follow-up questions is a major red flag.
HR Interview (Round 3)
Wipro's HR interview is typically 15-20 minutes. Common questions include:
- Tell me about yourself — Keep it professional, under 2 minutes
- Why Wipro? — Research Wipro's recent initiatives, their Spirit of Wipro values, and mention specific aspects that attract you
- Are you willing to work in shifts? — Many Wipro projects involve supporting global clients across time zones. Say yes and explain your flexibility
- Are you willing to relocate? — Wipro may post you to any of their offices. Always say yes
- What are your strengths and weaknesses? — Be genuine. For weaknesses, mention something you are actively working to improve
- Do you have any service agreements or bonds with other companies? — Be honest about any existing commitments
Wipro's Spirit of Wipro Values
Wipro's culture is built on three core values: Intensity of Passion (approaching every task with dedication), Being Sensitive (respecting all stakeholders), and Unyielding Integrity. Reference these in your HR answers — it shows you have done your research.
Preparation Strategy: 3-Week Plan
Week 1: Focus on aptitude preparation. Solve 50+ problems daily covering all quantitative and reasoning topics. Practice essay writing — write one essay per day.
Week 2: Focus on coding and technical subjects. Solve 3-4 coding problems daily on HackerRank or LeetCode. Review core CS subjects (OOP, DBMS, OS, Networking).
Week 3: Mock interviews and company research. Practice answering interview questions aloud. Research Wipro thoroughly — recent news, values, and technology focus areas.
For Experienced Candidates (Lateral Hiring)
Lateral hiring at Wipro follows a different process:
- Screening call with an HR representative to discuss your experience and expectations
- Technical round(s) — 1-2 rounds focused on your domain expertise. For DevOps roles, expect questions on CI/CD, cloud platforms, containerization, and monitoring tools. For application support, expect incident management scenarios and tool-specific questions
- Managerial round — Discussion about your experience managing projects, teams, or escalations
- HR discussion — Salary negotiation, notice period, and joining date
Key advice for laterals: Wipro values practical experience over certifications. Prepare real-world scenarios from your current or previous roles. Quantify your achievements wherever possible.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Not practicing the WCT — Many technically strong candidates fail because of poor written communication
- Ignoring aptitude — The online test is eliminatory, and no amount of technical skill can compensate for a failed aptitude round
- Memorizing project descriptions — Interviewers can tell when you are reciting memorized answers
- Not researching Wipro — At least know their CEO, recent projects, and core values
- Being overconfident or underconfident — Strike a balance between confidence and humility
Final Thoughts
Wipro is an excellent company for starting or advancing your IT career. Their training programs, global exposure, and career growth opportunities make them a strong choice. With focused preparation using this guide, you can significantly increase your chances of cracking the Wipro interview.
